This one-of-a-kind kimono tuxedo jacket is crafted from a hand-selected vintage Japanese silk kimono. Adorned with the phoenix, or hō-ō, an auspicious bird associated with peace, virtue and prosperity, the original textile is rich with extraordinary color, embroidery and symbolism.
White and vermilion phoenixes soar across a deep midnight ground scattered with gold, while blue and silver chevron waves move beneath them. The phoenix heads are intricately embroidered in white and orange silk thread, while delicate gold embroidery traces the wings and feathers, adding texture and dimension throughout. The jacket has been individually designed to preserve the movement and composition of the original kimono across the front, sleeves and back.
A black satin lapel frames the silk, bringing a clean, modern contrast to the extraordinary composition of the original textile. Handmade in Italy.
