THE NIGEL CURTISS SOIRÉE COLLECTION
This one-of-a-kind kimono jacket is crafted from the lower section of the same vintage Japanese uchikake wedding kimono used to create the Crimson Garden Jacket. Here, luminous shades of gold, black and crimson form the backdrop for an extraordinary arrangement of cranes, peonies, chrysanthemums and flowing botanical motifs. Extensive hand painting gives the silk remarkable depth and texture, with areas of metallic gold creating an almost leather-like richness across the surface.
Cranes sweep dramatically through the jacket, their bodies and wings completely embroidered in white, grey and black silk thread. Set against richly colored flowers and gilded forms, the dimensional embroidery creates a striking play of texture and movement. The original imagery has been individually designed across the front, sleeves and back to preserve the beauty and balance of the vintage kimono while giving this jacket its own distinct composition.
A self-fabric lapel carries the artwork across the front, allowing the contrasting cranes, florals and burnished gold silk to remain the focus. Handmade in Italy.
