Description

THE NIGEL CURTISS SOIRÉE COLLECTION

 

This one-of-a-kind kimono jacket is crafted from a vintage Japanese uchikake wedding kimono, richly decorated with hand-painted florals, pine and gilded motifs across a vivid crimson silk ground. The extensive hand painting gives the surface an unusually substantial, almost leather-like depth and texture while preserving the luminosity of the original silk.

 

Across the back, cranes sweep through the composition, fully embroidered in white, grey and black silk thread. Their dimensional embroidery is set against peonies, cherry blossoms and painted foliage, creating a striking contrast of color, texture and movement. The jacket has been individually designed to preserve the drama and balance of the original kimono across the front, sleeves and back.

 

A self-fabric lapel continues the artwork across the front of the jacket, allowing the richly detailed textile to remain the focus. Handmade in Italy.
